What is the ICC Spray-Applied Fireproofing Special Inspector exam?

The ICC Spray-Applied Fireproofing exam tests your knowledge of fire-resistance ratings, fireproofing application methods, thickness and frequency testing, adhesion/cohesion requirements, and other requirements for sprayed fire-resistive materials (SFRM) and thin-film intumescent fire-resistive materials (TFIFRM).

What code books do I need for this exam?

The exam references two smaller code books: the Technical Manual 12-A (4th Ed.) and Technical Manual 12-B (3rd Ed.). It is open-book. These books are not included with the course and must be purchased separately.

Is there high demand for fireproofing inspectors?

Yes — spray-applied fireproofing inspection is required on virtually every commercial steel building. There are fewer certified fireproofing inspectors than other specialties, which often means higher pay and more consistent work for those who hold the credential.
